M&A – When small is beautiful. |

Picking the M&A support organisation. |
|
| |
When SME’s look for an M&A support organisation, they will usually look at the larger established consulting company, accounting firm or legal practice geared to M&A transactions. It is important to stress that these organisations offer excellent services, they are usually well staffed, and some within the region can have upwards of 35 people with varying skills, depending on the organisation focus. |

The SME fears; are they justified? |

Management at the SME usually don’t have the deal making, due diligence and legal skills and in most cases do not have the time it takes to see the transaction through all its stages. However, given the negatives resulting from the many M&A transactions covering the full spectrum of company sizes and industry types, they opt for a safe route until they see the total cost of the transaction. |

What are the proven options and is small beautiful? |

Costs and standing teams are obviously related, the other side of the coin is where the organisations point to knowledge and experience, when in truth the knowledge and experience usually lies in the hands of a few people supported by recent graduates. A new emerging option is identifying an organisation like MK4, an organisation who can define and manage the transaction on a task based contract. The SME will know form the outset what services he is paying for and who is delivering the specific task, for example an experienced legal person defining the Acquisition Agreement, a specific task over a defined period covered by an experienced and knowledgeable person. |

A new option: beyond the transaction. |

Post deal support, is as important as any of the pre deal areas, the new emerging M&A organisations likeMK4, provide services in areas such learning and development, long range planning, organisation improvement and market development. Companies that actively pursue M&A strategies as a serious growth option require more. |
